workshops BACK IN AUTUMN!

These Sessions are designed to give you the confidence to keep your bike working through Winter and to safety check problems before they worsen. You’ll learn how to spot those niggles before they damage other components. We run through the best ways to clean and care for your bike. We’ll cover Roadside fixes including booting a tyre, replacing a tube quickly and what to do if a cable snaps whilst out riding. We also cover basic brake and gear adjustment before finally showing you how to adjust a headset.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & ROADSIDE BASICS - 2.5HRS - £35

Learn basic checks to ensure your bike is roadworthy, and acquire the knowledge to get yourself home if you breakdown on the road. You will learn how to:

  • Assess your bike for wear and tear - wheel & tyre condition, brake condition & function, gear function, steering function
  • Remove and re-fit wheels
  • Repair a puncture
  • Use a CO2 inflator
  • Re-fit a dropped chain
  • Repair a snapped chain
  • Clean and lube your chain
  • Carry out basic gear and brake adjustments

Each session has 6 places and takes place on Wednesdays. Protective gloves and aprons are provided, along with tea, coffee and biscuits. Any queries regarding the classes please contact the shop. SKILLS FOR THE HOME MECHANIC - 3HRS - £60

How to tackle routine maintenance and repair tasks that will enable you to service your own bike. Due to the varied nature of bicycles and their componentry, these courses now target specific types of bike - for example mountain, road, hybrid - so be sure to book one which is appropriate to your machine. Building on our Essential Skills course, you will learn how to:

  • Set up mechanical gears, including front mech alignment, limit screw and B-screw setting
  • Fit a new gear cable, both internally and externally routed
  • Replace brake pads (rim and disc) and align/adjust brake calipers
  • Fit a new brake cable
  • Adjust Di2 and other electromechanical gear systems
  • Check your chain for wear
  • Replace a chain
  • Remove and re-fit a cassette
  • Check and adjust the headset
  • Adjust handlebar height
  • Check spoke tension and true wheels

1 to 1 classes

We offer 1 to 1 classes for a more personal experience. We can spend the day working on your own bike allowing you to understand exactly what is needed to keep your bike running throughout the year.

BRonze

£100 – 2 hours

  • This covers the basics of bike maintenance
  • Checking the condition of spokes, rims and tyres and what to look for regarding wear.
  • Checking the condition of your drivetrain and what to look for regarding wear. How to adjust indexing, stops and general operation.
  • Checking the condition of pads and cables and how to adjust cable tension.
  • Checking the headset for play and how to adjust/remove play.
  • General inspection of the bike including insuring correct torque of bolts.

1-1 Basics

Silver

£175 – 4 hours

  • Includes everything covered in 1 to 1 basics.
  • Truing wheels and condition of rim tape.
  • Checking the condition of hubs regarding flange and surface damage.
  • How to strip, clean and refit drivetrain. Checking condition of pivots and jockey wheels.
  • How to strip clean and refit brakes including pads and alignment.

1 to 1 Half Annual

Gold

£250 – Full day

  • Everything included in basics and half annual.
  • Checking condition of hubs, how to strip, replace parts and reassemble. Adjusting cone nuts. Checking condition of freehub and replace.
  • Setting up disc brakes and hoses etc.
  • Stripping headset, removing forks, replacing and refitting parts.
  • Removing cranks and bottom bracket. Cleaning and assessing condition of shell/frame and the bottom bracket. Reassemble and refit.
  • Strip and clean other parts.

1 to 1 Annual
